HETEROTOPIA OF FEAR

by Roberto Alvim

[NOTE:

just like Virgil guided Dante on his journey

here I outline this scenic-cartography

meant to be read above all things as an invitation

so we may tread the paths of the other-place

built by Ana Mazzei]

PROLOGUE

once upon a time there was a boy

and that boy harbored a deep desire in hisheart:

he wished not just to live

but to find his destiny.

his destiny, he felt

lurked behind a door

an immense, gigantic door.

so the boy headed towards the door:

he left his house

abandoned the safety of his home

and walked toward that dreamt-of door

behind which his destiny awaited him.

after much searching

he found the gigantic door

but there was a guard in front of it...

and since the guard kept silent

the boy decided he would be silent too

and wait for the door to open up

or for the guard to invite him in.

so the boy sat on a rock

and waited there

in silence.

hours went by

and the hours turned to days

and the days turned to months, years

decades...

the boy

(by now an old man)

Sat in silence before the gigantic door

all his life.

one day, that old man

who was once a boy seeking his destiny

felt his strength was faltering

and death was very, very near;

struggling in his last breath

the old man mustered the courage anaddressed the guard

for the first time in all his wait:

“sir?

I am sorry to bother you, but...

the door, this door:

when will it open up?”

the guard looked at the old man, notunderstanding his question

but the old man insisted:

“please, I need an answer...

I have been waiting here for such a longtime....

this door, behind which my destiny awaits;

when will it open up?"

then the guard smiled

and said, his voice filled with tenderness:

“this door?

it’s open...

this door?

it has always been open, always open:

to you.”

but before he had finished uttering thesewords

the guard realized that the old man

no longer breathed.

ACT I

the stage – the place of ACTION (DRAMA,in Greek)

inhabited by

DESIREFUL-OBJECTS:

demanding us

begging

pleading

for UNREGULATED CONNECTIONS.

only thus will these das ding beACTIVATED:

they depend on us to discover theirmeaning

- but their meaning is similar to that ofschizophrenic-machines

which FUNCTION

although they have no purpose...

(and this is how they join the verystructure of LIFE)

like a WOODEN HORSE:

to ride it

and to set out towards

destiny

like the EYE OF GOD:

realize – omniscience

is always

unstable

 INTERMEZZO

here

(in this interzone):

the place of SPEECH

to speak in order to:

1 - conceal our nakedness

2 - mask our isolation

3 - eclipse the devastation that consumesus

4 – invent our own selves

I SPEAK : I EXIST

(if

and only if

in the act of speaking

you notice the HOLE

then penetrate it

and move on to the next scene)

 ACT II

in the scenery

two shadows

(seeing as this is their territory)

talk in silence:

SHADOW 1.

fear

do you understand?

fear

has no

object

SHADOW 2.

fear? no

that is wrong, so so wrong

fear does too, fear always had always willhave its own specific object

SHADOW 1.

fear?

(SHADOW 2 smiles)

SHADOW 2.

yes: fear can only exist

if the-Object

exists

(then SHADOW 2

invokes

the-Object)

in a Portal:

Kthulu

(the-absent-Object)

in another Portal:

his victim

(me-you?)
